"The SGAP Talent Show, held in the Jubilee Centre
in Bradley Stoke, on Saturday February 2004, was an SGAP first!!
The
atmosphere on the day of the Show was amazing; the buzz from contestants
and audience alike was one of a resounding success – a Bradley
Stoke, (and South Gloucestershire), extravaganza!!
Starting with an
introduction from Vijay Chandiramani, the show was hosted by
Phil Gibbons (Star FM) who introduced, to a
full-house audience (over 100 spectators!), a variety of performances
ranging in theme from, traditional, cultural and contemporary. These
included: |

Little Anish Malde, (aged 5), kicked off the show with a heart-warming rendition of a prayer. With an auspicious beginning like this, nothing could go wrong! |

Sakshi
Sood (5) with a Bollywood dance. This little one clearly enjoyed herself on stage and gave a wonderful performance. |

Priya
Mistry (9) gave us a fantastic gymnastics routine that had the audience
asking for an encore, which she performed even better than the first
time at the end of the show!! |

Rishi
Panchal (5) was an amazing little rhythm-master playing a variety of
beats (Garba, Bhangra and the African) on different drums. Rishi had
the audience regaled with his magic fingers!
|

Hema
Mistry (11) performed her stupendous rendition of the Dola dance from
the Bollywood film Devdas, and had the audience entranced with her graceful
presentation of an intricate dance. |

JK
Magic had the audience amused and baffled with his wonderful sleight of hand. |

Prerna
Chandiramani displayed another one of her many talents - Watercolour
Painting - to the delight of the audience. |

Rani
Kaur and Priya Bahal were a polished duo who staged their wonderfully
co-ordinated tribute to the foot-tapping You are my Soniya from K3G. |

Simone
Dhillon (5) and Nisha Ahluwalia (9) amazed us all with their perfectly
enthralling performances with dance moves that put Bollywood queens Kareena
Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee to shame. |

Sangeeta
Dewan, the SGAP nightingale and Bollywood singing teacher clearly proved
why she is the teacher!! |
The audience were thoroughly captivated
by the performances, and as the participants lined up to receive their
honorary certificates from surprise guest Sue Walker, Chair of South
Gloucestershire Council, they were greeted by a thundering rapturous
applause!
After the main part of the show was brought to a close,
the audience whetted their appetites with piping hot samosas and refreshments.
Following this brief intermission, the talent flood-gates
were thrown open to the audience in a free-for-all session in which everyone
was invited to have a go and display their hidden talents!!
This proved a real surprise for everyone, and eventually
several people plucked up their courage and enthusiasm to sing, play
dhol, and dance in front a captive audience for the very first time!!
Due to the runaway success of the show this year, we
look forward to even more partcipants in next years show!!"
